Chocolate Chai Tea Recipe
On a cold winter's day like today I always need a little something extra to keep me warm and there is nothing like a steaming cup of hot chocolate chai tea to do just that. Although I love our Chai milk chocolate bars, sometimes I need a good old fashioned cup of tea to get me going. The strong aromatics and rich flavors can almost make me forget about how chilly it is outside by transporting me to the more exotic East.
- 2 cracked cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 pinch anise seed
- 2 (1/4-inch) slices fresh peeled ginger
- 1 cups water
- 1 black tea bags
- 1 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cups unsweetened almond milk
- 1 Tbsp. honey
Place the spices into medium saucepan with the water and bring to a simmer. Cover and turn down heat to low. Simmer 3-5 minutes and turn off heat. Add tea bag, cover, and steep for 4-5 minutes or until tea reaches desired strength. Remove tea bags, re-cover, and allow the chai to sit for 20 minutes. Strain. In a separate bowl, whisk cocoa with 1/4 cup of hot tea and vanilla. Blend until smooth. Return to the pan with the rest of the tea. Add the almond milk and honey and reheat the tea until hot.
