This Saturday, January 8, would have been Elvis' 76th birthday. So, to commemorate the day I wanted to post the recipe for his favorite food, the famous fried peanut butter and banana sandwich. The recipe is quite simple and reminds me a bit of making a grilled cheese sandwich except with a more tempting filling. Since I am so devoted to all things chocolate, I had to add my own spin on it by adding a drizzle of homemade chocolate sauce that I made with our own dark chocolate bars. I have to say one thing, the king was right! This is an amazing treat.
Elvis Presley's Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
- 2 slices white bread
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small extra-ripe banana
- 2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
Start by putting both slices of bread in the toaster on a light setting. Then, in a small skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. In a bowl mash the banana with a fork until smooth. Once the bread has finished toasting, spread the peanut butter on both pieces of bread and spread the mashed banana on top of the bottom slice. Top with the second piece of bread to form a sandwich and place it in the skillet with the hot butter. Flip once during cooking making sure to brown both sides.
