Food of the Gods

Believe it or not, but the Latin name for the cacao tree, Theobroma, actually means “food of the gods" and for any true chocolate lover it is not hard to see why.  Delicious, decadent chocolate feeds the mind and soul as is evident by the fact that over a million tons of chocolate is consumed world wide each year and this trend is growing - thanks in part to expanding research on its medicinal benefits.

Besides expanding research into the benefit chocolate has in preventing heart attacks and strokes, there is also increasing evidence showing that chocolate is good for the memory.  After all, how many times have you gone grocery shopping and forgotten to bring home some chocolate? Not often I'm guessing. :)

We are also seeing advances in the research of chocolate's effect when used as a diuretic, antiseptic, parasiticide, pilatory and even in treating cancer. In some parts of the world chocolate is even used to treat snake bites and burns.

Overall, we are seeing advances in scientific research showing that chocolate has more to offer us than the familiar sense of satisfaction we get after consuming our daily treat.  As if I needed an excuse to eat more chocolate.
