Eating dark chocolate packed with antioxidants and flavonols each day may help prevent new wrinkles from forming as well as improve skin elasticity. Everyday environmental pollutants and lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol, poor diet and insufficient sleep contribute to the creation of free radicals that dramatically accelerate the skin's aging process. Antioxidants counteract these free radicals and neutralize the damage they would otherwise do to the body. According to Kepler Capital Markets analyst Jon Cox, "There is a huge body of evidence that shows flavanols slow down damage caused by free radicals."
The benefits of these same flavonols and antioxidants have already been linked to brain and heart health. In fact, "There is quite a lot of evidence that cocoa flavanols have a positive effect on the blood flow.
