Researchers at Queen's University Belfast are looking for 110 volunteers to take part in a three year study aimed at determining if a diet rich in polyphenols, a component of chocolate, aid cardiovascular health. The participants will be included in one of two groups where the first group of participants follow a diet that is low in polyphenols. This group is meant to be a control group modeled after the average diet that is low in fruits and vegetables. The second group will be encouraged to follow a diet high in polyphenols and will have dark chocolate delivered to their homes. The study is set to begin in August.
The ultimate aim of this study is to determine of polyphenols, and chocolate, can reduce the risk of heart disease.
