The weather outside of Chicago, where I live, has finally started to cool down. So, my family and I have been taking walks around the neighborhood more often. It's really exciting to see all the decorations that are starting to pop up for Halloween and it has me thinking about Trick or Treat time.
On one hand, I want to keep my kitchen stocked with healthy treats, but on the other hand, I want to have fun, holiday inspired treats. So, I've come up with a few healthy or at least healthier sweet treat options.
Little Orange Pumpkins / Jack-O-Lanterns: There is not much compromising with these cuties, pun intended. The jack-o-lanterns are just easy-to-peel clementines that I drew a smiley face on and the little pumpkin is one that I peeled and put a bit of celery on top for a stem. Super easy and super yummy.
Ghostly Meringues: Meringues taste like crunchy little clouds of flavored sugar and are the perfect sweet snack when you want just a little something sweet. When making them, I don't skimp on the vanilla and use real vanilla bean or vanilla bean paste. Trust me here, its really worth it and for the eyes and mouth, just use a bit of chocolate sauce.
Banana Ghosts: Did you ever notice how a banana cut in half looks like a ghost? Well try pushing in a chocolate chip for the mouth and two mini chips for the eyes. Now do you see it? A perfectly simple banana ghost.
Lastly, of course, I want to remind you about our amazing Better Bites, chocolate covered peanut butter cup bites. They are the most amazing tasting sweet treat out there. In fact, they are so delicious, its tough to say that they're healthy candy, but they are!
I hope that these Halloween treat ideas work for you and your family and if you have any other thoughts, let me know!
